Welcome to Walden School - Good School in Kentucky
History of This
Walden School was founded
by Dr. Edward F. Vermillion in 1975.
Walden students benefit from an
intellectually challenging approach to preparing for college. Classes
are small, independent work is encouraged, and the curriculum is
rigorous and comprehensive. Walden offers a variety of AP classes which
allow teachers to dig deeper into the nuances of the subject matter and
provide students the opportunity to earn college credit.
A major component of the
High School curriculum is the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
program. Teachers and students interact in the classroom over the Walden
wireless network – utilizing laptops, tablets, iPads and SMART Boards.
Information is shared quickly and seamlessly, collaboration is easy and
instantaneous, and feedback is given real-time. Through their daily
interactions in the classroom and at home, students learn to use
technology fluently and responsibly as a vehicle for creativity,
learning, productivity, and communication.
Walden’s continuity of
education is integrated with athletics and extracurricular activities
designed to build well-rounded individuals who understand the importance
of finding the appropriate balance between mind and body. Walden
graduates enter the world as creative and innovative thinkers who value
diversity and compassion and appreciate the role they have to play as
the culturally and ethically minded scholars, citizens, and leaders of
our globalized society.
Walden has a vibrant Middle School band program, and offers district, regional, and state-level opportunities for academic competition.
The Middle School faculty works as a team, emphasizing the cross-curricular relationships among the academic subject areas. Middle School students also receive the benefits from "looping," the practice of having the same teacher for the same subject for two or more consecutive years. By working together for consecutive school years, teachers and students can develop a bond of trust and stability to explore content more deeply. This in-depth understanding of curriculum for teachers and content for students maximizes instructional time and provides differientiation and/or enrichment based on the needs of each student. Looping, coupled with small classes, ensures students receive a high level of individual attention that provides many academic as well as emotional benefits. Walden eighth grade graduates demonstrate confidence and maturity that prepare them for the challenges of high school.
The Middle School faculty utilizes wireless computers and Smart Boards that are interactive with student devices; laptops, tablets, etc. Each 8th Grade student is required to bring his or her own device to utilize this system which allows access to a wealth of educational resources. Class notes and lessons can be stored, information transmitted, and homework and tests can be web based.
Middle School Hours:
8:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday - Thursday
8:00 am - 1:00 pm, Friday
Students
are encouraged to lead a well-rounded life while at Walden. Beginning
in Kindergarten, we provide a wide range of athletic sports and
intramural activities. We believe that every student benefits from being
a part of a team that teaches lessons about commitment, competition,
motivation, respect and interdependence. For that reason, Walden has a
no-cut policy in all sports. Our goal is for every student to be
physically active.
We would like to invite you to Submit your Photos from any Walden event you attend. In doing so, you are giving us permission to use these photos for the yearbook ...
Best Regards !!!
